I am the memorial custodian of the Palace Barracks Memorial Garden in Holywood Northern Ireland. The garden has been in existence for the last 19 years and is run on a completely voluntary basis by myself.
The garden has over 80 memorials dedicated to all members of the Armed Forces who have lost their lives in all conflicts from the `Suez Crisis on through to the present conflict in Afghanistan. I also run a memorial garden website which remembers 10.000 members of the Armed Forces who died on operations worldwide. www.palacebarracksmemorialgarden.co.uk
A memorial wall has been erected in Palace Barracks to commemorate the Regiments and Corps of the British Army who served in Northern Ireland during Op Corporate. The Wall has been completed with an underground lighting system, which will show it at its best during the hours of darkness. At this moment in time there are over 36 memorial plaques on the wall including the RAMC ,QARANC.WRAC and other Corps and Regiments.
My aim has been that those men and women of our Armed Forces who lost their lives while on operations will never be forgotten
I do this on behalf of their families ,friends and comrades
They shall grow not old as we that are left grow old, Age shall not weary them nor the years condemn, at the going down of the sun, and in the morning We will remember them.
Albert Owens, Memorial Custodian, Palace Barracks Memorial Garden.
