1st Bn Royal Regiment of Wales

Private James Carl Rogers.

17th December 2001

Private James Carl Rogers of the 1st Battalion Royal Regiment of Wales died in Pristina, Kosovo on 17 December 2001. Private Rogers' commanding officer, Lieutenant Colonel Russ Wardle said, "We are all shocked and saddened by what has happened. Our thoughts are of course with James' family to whom we extend our deepest sympathy." James' father issued the following statement: "My wife Caroline and I are both devastated by the death of our son James in Kosovo on Monday evening. He was our pride and joy, and it is terribly difficult to come to terms with his loss at such a young age. Our family, our friends and the local community have been marvellous in rallying around us and offering their support. We were deeply touched to hear that the children at James' old school prayed for him yesterday. We are in constant touch with officers of James' regiment, the Royal Regiment of Wales, and they are keeping us informed on the investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death, including the possibility that he may have had an accident with his rifle. Whatever the outcome of these investigations, we cannot bring James back. We are enormously proud of him, and of the fact that he chose to live his life in the service of others, and we shall always love and cherish his memory."
