Flight Lieutenant Hayes was killed when his aircraft crashed during a training sortie in Alaska on 25 July

US Air Force Search & Rescue personnel attended the scene of the accident in Alaska, but Flight Lieutenant Jason Hayes had sadly been killed in the crash. Aged 28, Flight Lieutenant Hayes was a Jaguar pilot with 54 (Fighter) Squadron, based at RAF Coltishall. He was on a routine training sortie, taking part in Exercise Cope Thunder, flying from Eielson Air Force Base in Alaska. Born in Aldershot, he studied Pharmacology at Dundee University and joined the Royal Air Force in 1996. He was married. His Station Commander said that his death was a deep shock to all at RAF Coltishall and that everything possible was being done to offer support to his family and friends.
