On 11 July the Provisional IRA detonated a device in Great James Street, Londonderry and when soldiers followed this up, a sniper, positioned at the top of the street, fired a single round into Bombardier Terrence Jones’ back. The married man from the Wrexham area was 23 and was attached to an Army medical unit.
